Sights & Sounds: Saluting our 2026 college graduates
Four Catholic universities within the Archdiocese of Newark held their commencement ceremonies last month for the Class of 2026. In addition to Seton Hall University, Caldwell University, Saint Peter’s University, and Felician University, several other area campuses that celebrated graduations have ministries that serve their Catholic students — including Kean University, Stevens Institute of Technology, and Montclair State University, among others.
Below are some photos of this year’s graduation ceremonies, with excerpts from speeches by local commencement speakers. See the link at the end of the article for many more photos.
Jersey Catholic salutes all our 2026 college grads!

Go deeper into your faith for the rest of your life. You will, I promise, become a happier person.”
– Arthur C. Brooks, Seton Hall University commencement speaker

Everything you carry within you was never meant to be hidden because this world needs more Peacocks.”
– Dr. Ijeoma “Ije” Akunyili, Saint Peter’s University commencement speaker

A mission defines all of us and anchors us. It is a declaration of the difference that we seek to make in the world. When you have a mission, you are not focused on the next promotion, the bigger paycheck, or the nice car. You’re not crafting a resume; you’re crafting your spirit and growing your soul.”
– Mark D. Sparta, Felician University commencement speaker
