Sights & Sounds: Cardinal Tobin visits CYO Summer Camp

It is a long summer tradition in the Archdiocese of Newark — from across the archdiocese kids gather to enjoy fun and sun in a faith-filled setting.

On Aug. 14, Cardinal Joseph W. Tobin, C.Ss.R., Archbishop of Newark, visited the CYO Summer Day Camp at the John Paul II Retreat Center in Kearny, NJ. He toured the camp and spent the morning chatting with campers and thanking donors and members of the staff.

Now over 80 years old, the CYO Summer Day Camp remains as popular as ever. Campers ages 5-12 enjoy a wide range of activities including team sports like basketball, volleyball, and kickball. There are also arts & crafts activities and opportunities to hone computer skills, play video games, or swim in the facility’s pool. Campers change activity sessions every hour with a lunch break in the afternoon.

By the end of the day campers will have participated in six different activities and will return home happy and (to the relief of their parents) usually a little tired.
