Obituary: Sister Regina Rose Palkovics, S.C., 107
Sister Regina Rose Palkovics, S.C., a Sister of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, died Saturday, April 24, 2021 at The Villa at Florham Park, Florham Park, N.J. at the age of 107.
Sister Regina Rose was born in New York City, N.Y., the daughter of Ferdinand and Anna (Vrablic) Palkovics. She entered the Sisters of Charity on Sept. 8, 1931 and was a member for 89 years.
Sister Regina Rose graduated from the Saint Elizabeth University (formerly the College of Saint Elizabeth), Convent Station, N.J. with a B.S. degree in Education. Sister Regina Rose served in the education ministry in New Jersey. She was a teacher at Saint Columba School, Newark; Saint Bernard School, Plainfield; Saint Charles Borromeo School, Newark; Sacred Heart School, New Brunswick; Saint Rose of Lima School, Newark; and Sacred Heart School, Bloomfield.
She loved teaching and celebrating life with her students. After her formal teaching years, she was a receptionist in Belleville medical office and a secretary at United Hospital in Newark. These years also offered her an opportunity for substitute teaching.
As a great traveling companion who enjoyed every destination, Maris Stella was a favorite, offering many happy summers. Wherever she was her sense of humor was contagious and often self-deprecating. She retired to Caritas Community in Jersey City until 2009 when The Villa became her home.
She is survived by the Sisters of Charity, faithful nieces along with many grandnieces and grandnephews.
