From the Archives: Bishop McLaughlin’s Ordination, 1935
Most Rev. Thomas H. McLaughlin, the first auxiliary bishop of Newark to be consecrated in Sacred Heart Cathedral, was ordained on July 25, 1935. Over 4,000 people attended the ceremony. The Cathedral was still under construction, so American and Papal flags with bunting adorned the unfinished walls and arches.
