An ecumenical icon for Pope Leo (Video)
When a group of Orthodox and Catholic pilgrims from the United States met Pope Leo on July 17 at his residence in Castel Gandolfo, one of the pilgrims presented the Pope with a specially commissioned icon — a diptych of Saint Leo the Great and the Apostle Bartholomew. Jack Figel intended to present a second copy of the icon to Patriarch Bartholomew, the Orthodox Archbishop of Constantinople, when the group met with him in Istanbul.
But the commission presented Figel with a problem: which saint should be depicted on the right and which on the left? In this question of giving precedence, he came up with an interesting solution.
