Students pray Stations of the Cross during Lent (Photos)

Catholics worldwide pray the Stations of the Cross throughout Lent as a spiritual journey through the significant moments of Jesus’ final hours preparing for Easter.

In the Archdiocese of Newark, students reflected on Jesus’ path to Calvary and His sacrifice on the Cross by participating in the Stations of the Cross prayer and staging Living Stations of the Cross performances. The performances unite Catholics in portraying the Way of the Cross through dramatic reenactments or narrations, often accompanied by icons or paintings.

Students at Saint Rose of Lima Academy in Short Hills prepared for Holy Week by attending Mass during Holy Week and participating in the Stations of the Cross. The 5th grade led an outdoor Stations of the Cross in the cemetery for the preschool and primary grades. The 6th grade prepared and led the Stations of the Cross as Way Walkers depicting the people who journeyed with Jesus to his death. The 8th grade put on a Last Supper on Holy Thursday.
