NJ Bishops share ‘Faithful Citizenship’ message before election
The New Jersey Catholic Conference has released a video ahead of the upcoming election, sharing the Church’s message of “Faithful Citizenship.”
It features the five Catholic bishops of New Jersey:
Cardinal Joseph W. Tobin, C.Ss.R., Archbishop of Newark
Coadjutor Archbishop James F. Cecchio, Archdiocese of New Orleans, and administrator of the Diocese of Metuchen
Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M., Diocese of Trenton
Bishop Kevin J. Sweeney, Diocese of Paterson
Bishop Joseph A. Williams, Diocese of Camden
In the video, the bishops remind Catholics of their obligation to participate in the democratic process, the importance of allowing faith to shape one’s politics, and the right and responsibility to follow one’s conscience. They also issue a “call to action” to bring civility back into the political sphere.
If you do not bring God’s voice into the voting booth and the decisions shaping our country, who will?”
