Archdiocesan religious celebrate 2025 Jubilees

The Archdiocese of Newark is pleased to recognize 50 of its religious who are celebrating milestone anniversaries of their commitment to the Catholic Church in 2025. Together, this year’s class of religious jubilarians represent 3,235 years of service to God in the Church’s parishes, schools, hospitals, and other ministries. 80 Years

Sister Carmel Livolsi, OP

80+ - LIVOLSI, OP - Sister Carmel - PHOTOSister Carmel Livolsi entered religious life on August 30, 1945. She earned her B.A. at Caldwell University and her master’s degree in religious studies at Providence College in Providence, RI. She served the Archdiocese of Newark as the missions coordinator for Propagation of the Faith. Sister Carmel taught at numerous schools in the archdiocese, including Saint Paul School in Irvington; Saint Peter School in Parsippany; Sacred Heart School in Dover; Saint Philomena School in Livingston; Saints Peter and Paul School in Hoboken; and Saint Catherine School in Elizabeth.

Sister Patricia Bray, SC

75 - BRAY, SC - SR PATRICIASister Patricia Bray entered religious life on April 2, 1950. She studied at the College of Saint Elizabeth in Convent Station, earning a B.S. in education. Sister Patricia then devoted her life to teaching to schools such as Saint John School in Orange; Saint Aloysius School in Newark; Saint Rose of Lima School in Newark; Holy Name School in East Orange; Saint Antonius School in Newark; Star of the Sea Academy Elementary School in Long Branch; and Saint Andrew School in Westwood.

 

Sister Rita Calabrese, OP

75 - CALABRESE, OP - SR RITASister Rita Calabrese entered religious life on September 8, 1950. She earned a B.S. degree at Caldwell University and an M.B.A. at the University of Notre Dame in Notre Dame, IN. She served as Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Schools for Finance at the Archdiocesan Schools office, and as a business officer, treasurer, and financial consultant for numerous schools. Sister Rita was also a teacher at Saint Mary School in Rutherford and Mount Saint Dominic Academy in Caldwell.

 

Sister Marie Charitina Frabizio, SC

75 - FRABIZIO, SC - Sister Marie CharitinaSister Marie Charitina Frabizio entered religious life on October 1, 1950. She studied at the College of Saint Elizabeth in Convent Station, earning a B.S. in education, and at Seton Hall University in South Orange, where she earned her master’s degree in education. Sister Marie taught at St. Mary School in Elizabeth and the Academy of Saint Aloysius Elementary in Jersey City. She was the Principal of Saint Anthony School in Elizabeth and Saint Mary School in Nutley.

 

Sister Marie Thérèse Hayes, OSB

75 - HAYES, OSB - Sister Marie ThereseSister Marie Thérèse Hayes entered religious life on January 14, 1950. She studied at Hunter College in New York and Seton Hall University in South Orange, then earned an M.A. at Catholic University in Washington, DC. Sister Marie was a fifth-grade teacher at Saint Benedict School in Newark, and a middle school teacher at Saint Joseph School in Maplewood; Blessed Sacrament School in Elizabeth; Saint James School in Springfield; and Bender Memorial Academy in Elizabeth. She was also the principal of Blessed Sacrament and Saint James, as well as of Saint Henry’s School in Bayonne.

 

Sister Elizabeth Ann Holler, SC

75 - HOLLER, SC - SR ELIZABETH ANNSister Elizabeth Ann Holler entered religious life on October 1, 1950. She earned her undergraduate degree at the College of Saint Elizabeth in Convent Station and a master’s degree in education at Boston College in Chestnut Hill, MA. Sister Elizabeth was a teacher at Our Lady of Victories in Harrington Park and Saint Mary’s School in Elizabeth; a teacher and counselor at St. Agnes School in Paterson; and a principal at Our Lady of Victories and Holy Family Interparochial School in Norwood. She was also a pastoral associate at Immaculate Conception Church in Norwood.

 

Sister Mary Jane O’Hare, SC

75 - OHARE, SC - SR MARY JANESister Mary Jane O’Hare entered religious life on April 2, 1950. She earned a bachelor’s degree in education at the College of Saint Elizabeth in Convent Station and an R.N. at Saint Joseph Hospital School of Nursing in Paterson. Sister Mary Jane was a teacher at Our Lady Help of Christians in East Orange, as well as a nurse at Saint Joseph Hospital in Paterson; Saint Elizabeth Hospital in Elizabeth; and Saint Michael Hospital in Newark. She served as an operating room supervisor at Saint Vincent Hospital in Montclair and as Director of Nursing at Saint Ann Villa in Convent Station.

Sister Barbara Aires, SC

70 - AIRES, SC - SR BARBARASister Barbara Aires entered religious life on September 6, 1955. She earned a B.S. in education at the College of Saint Elizabeth in Convent Station and an M.A. in education at Seton Hall University in South Orange. She taught at Our Lady of Lourdes in West Orange and the Academy of Saint Aloysius and Saint Aloysius High School in Jersey City. Sister Barbara was a provincial councilor and assistant provincial of the Northern Provincial House in Jersey City, as well as councilor and secretary of the congregation for the Sisters of Charity in Convent Station.

 

Sister Beverly Ann Bligh, SC

70 - BLIGH, SC - SR BEVERLY ANNSister Beverly Ann Bligh entered religious life on September 6, 1955. She earned her bachelor’s degree in education at the College of Saint Elizabeth in Convent Station. Sister Beverly Ann was a teacher at Saint Philip School in Saddle Brook and at several schools in Jersey City, including the following: Saint Joseph School; Our Lady of Victories School; Saint Patrick School; and Saint Mary School. At Saint Bridget School in Jersey City, she worked as a teacher on the independent child study team. She also taught at Nurturing Place in Jersey City.

 

Sister Mary Ann Brezina, OP

70 - BREZINO, OP - Sr. Mary AnnSister Mary Ann Brezina entered religious life on August 15, 1955. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Caldwell University in Caldwell, an M.A. in science at Montclair State University in Montclair, and an M.S. in botany from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, NE. Sister Mary Ann served as a teacher at St. Michael School in Union; Saint Peter and Paul School in Hoboken; Union Catholic High School in Scotch Plains; Mount Saint Dominic Academy in Caldwell; Paul VI Regional High School in Clifton; and Saint Dominic Academy in Jersey City. She was also an instructor at Caldwell University. Sister Mary Ann has also served as a plant manager, librarian, director of food services, and administrative assistant at various institutions.

 

Sister Jo Ann Bromley, SC

70 - BROMLEY, SC - SR JO ANNSister Jo Ann Bromley entered religious life on September 6, 1955. She earned a B.S. in education from the College of Saint Elizabeth in Convent Station and a master’s degree in education from Seton Hall University in South Orange. Sister Jo Ann served as a teacher at Holy Cross School in Harrison and St. Joseph School in Paterson. She was also the principal of St. Joseph’s, serving in the same role at St. Michael School in Newark. Sister Jo Ann was also an administrator at Mother Seton Residence in Montclair, Seton Manor in Newark; Caritas Community in Jersey City; and Mount Saint Andrew Villa in Paramus.

 

Sister Mary Immaculate McGovern, OP

70 - McGOVERN, OP - Sister Mary ImmaculateSister Mary Immaculate McGovern entered religious life on August 15, 1955. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Caldwell University in Caldwell and an M.S. in music from Catholic University in Washington, D.C. Sister Mary Immaculate taught at Saint Aloysius School in Caldwell; Saint John the Apostle School in Clark; Union Catholic High School in Scotch Plains; Saint Dominic Academy in Jersey City; Lacordaire Academy in Upper Montclair; Ascension School in New Milford; and Sacred Heart School in Lyndhurst. She also served as an instructor at Caldwell University; a novice director for the Sisters of Saint Dominic in Caldwell; a patient care aide at Saint Catherine Healthcare Center in Caldwell; and the director of music at Small Blessings School in Lyndhurst.

 

Sister Barbara Moore, OP

70 - MOORE, OP - Sister BarbaraSister Barbara Moore entered religious life on August 15, 1955. She earned a B.A. from Caldwell University in Caldwell, an M.S. in library science from Catholic University in Washington, DC, and a Doctor of Ministry degree from Drew University in Madison. Sister Barbara was a teacher at Saint Mary School in Rahway; Blessed Sacrament School in Roseland; and Saint Mary High School in Rutherford, where she was also the librarian. She was the principal of Saint Aedan School in Jersey City and Mount Saint Dominic Academy in Caldwell. Sister Barbara served as a pastoral associate at Blessed Kateri Parish in Sparta and a patient advocate at Saint Catherine’s Healthcare Center in Caldwell. At Caldwell University, she was a theology professor, acting dean of students, and the graduate pastoral ministry coordinator.

 

Sister Thomas Marie Morris, OP

70 - MORRIS, OP - Sister Thomas MarieSister Thomas Marie Morris entered religious life on August 15, 1955. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Caldwell University. Sister Thomas Marie served as a teacher at Saint Aloysius School in Caldwell; Saint Dominic Academy in Jersey City; Mount Saint Dominic Academy in Caldwell; and Saint Cecilia High School in Englewood. She worked in the Office of the Treasurer at Caldwell University, and as an administrative assistant at New Hope Pregnancy Resource Center in Paramus and Saint Mary School in Dumont. Sister Thomas Marie also served as a pastoral associate at Saint Cecilia Parish in Englewood.

 

Sister Beverly Ornes, SC

70 - ORNES, SC - SR BEVERLYSister Beverly Ornes entered religious life on March 6, 1955. She earned a B.S. in education from the College of Saint Elizabeth in Convent Station and an M.A. in education from Seton Hall University in South Orange. Sister Beverly worked as a teacher at Saint Mary Orphanage in Newark; Saint Catherine in Glen Rock; Immaculate Conception in Franklin; Saint Patrick in Newark; Our Lady of Sorrows in South Orange; Saint Bridget School in Jersey City; Saint Vincent Martyr in Madison; Sacred Heart School in Dover; Paterson Adult School in Paterson; and Saint Pius X School in Montville. She was also an I.D.E.A. teacher at Educate, Inc. At Assumption School in Morristown, she served as a teacher and vice principal, and was also the vice principal at Maryland of the Oranges School in South Orange. Additionally, Sister Beverly served as a program director for the Archdiocese of Newark.

 

Sister Ann O’Rourke, OP

Sister Ann O’Rourke entered religious life on August 15, 1955. She earned a B.S. from Saint Peter’s University in Jersey City; an M.A. in theology from Providence College in Providence, RI; and an M.S. in social work and counseling from Fordham University in the Bronx, NY. She worked as a counseling volunteer at Saint Catherine Convent and Healthcare Center in Caldwell; a counselor at Mount Saint Dominic Academy in Caldwell; and a social worker at Our Lady of Sorrows Parish in Jersey City. She also served as a pastoral associate at Saint Elizabeth Parish in Linden; a pastoral associate and director of religious education at Saint Mary Parish in Rahway; a teacher and coordinator of religious education at Saint Theresa School and Parish; a teacher at Saint Joseph School in West Orange; a teacher at Mount Saint Dominic Grade School in Caldwell; a teacher at Blessed Sacrament School in Bridgeport, CT; a teacher at Saint Elizabeth School in Linden and a teacher at Saint Philomena School in Livingston.

 

Sister Patricia Reynolds, SC

70 - REYNOLDS, SC - SR PATRICIASister Patricia Reynolds entered religious life on September 6, 1955. She received a B.A. in education from the College of Saint Elizabeth in Convent Station. Her assignments include working in infant massage at Our Lady of Providence in Neptune, a massage therapist at Saint Mary’s in Colts Neck, a pastoral minister at Saint Mary Parish in Jersey City, a teacher at All Saints in Jersey City, a teacher at Holy Trinity in Fort Lee, a teacher at Saint Lucy in Jersey City, a teacher at Saint Cecilia in Englewood, a director of volunteers at RW Johnson Health Center in Plainfield, a pastoral care and sister visitation provider at Saint Vincent Hospital in Montclair and a physical therapist at Saint James Hospital in Newark. She has also worked for the Visiting Homemakers in New Brunswick and the YWCA Battered Women’s Shelter in Jersey City.

 

Sister Janet Richardson, CSJP

70 - RICHARDSON, CSJP - Sister JanetSister Janet Richardson entered religious life on June 29, 1955. She attended New York University in New York, NY, in addition to earning a B.A. in French from Douglass College in New Brunswick, an M.A. in French from Seton Hall University in South Orange, and a Ph.D. in French from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. She worked as a teacher at Saint Michael’s Novitiate in Englewood Cliffs, a teacher at Saint Luke’s High School in Ho Ho Kus, a teacher at Saint Joseph Juniorate in Saddle River and an instructor at Caldwell College in Caldwell. She also served as a staff member at the Permanent Observer of the Holy See within the United Nations in New York, NY; worked as a director at the UN’s International Catholic Organization Center; and held various roles at the Residence for Translation at Zen Community in Baltimore, MD.

 

Sister Anita Thompson, SC

70 - THOMPSON, SC - SR ANITASister Anita Thompson entered religious life on September 6, 1955. She earned a B.A. in education from the College of St. Elizabeth in Convent Station and an M.A. in education from the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, IN. She worked as a teacher at Saints Peter and Paul High School in Saint Thomas, Virgin Islands; Blessed Sacrament in Jamaica Plains, MA; Sacred Heart in New Brunswick; and Saint Michael High School in Jersey City. She also served as the director of guest services at the Xavier Center in Convent Station.

 

Sister Carol Van Billiard, OP

70 - VAN BILLIARD, OP - Sister CarolSister Carol Van Billiard entered religious life on August 15, 1955. She graduated with a B.A. from Caldwell University in Caldwell and an M.A. in French from Assumption University in Worcester, MA. As a teacher, she worked at Mount Saint Dominic Academy in Caldwell, Saint Dominic Academy in Jersey City, Saint Catherine School in Elizabeth, Our Lady of the Lake School in Verona and Saint Mary School in Rahway. She has also been a director at Hudson Hospice in Jersey City and an English-as-a-second-language volunteer at the Sisters of Saint Dominic in Caldwell.

 

Sister Maryanne Van Note, SC

70 - VAN NOTE, SC - SR MARYANNESister Maryanne Van Note entered religious life on September 6, 1955. She received a B.A. in education from the College of Saint Elizabeth in Convent Station; an M.S. in education from the University of Scranton in Scranton, PA; an M.S.W. in social work from Rutgers University in New Brunswick; and a Ph.D. from Fordham University in the Bronx, NY. She served as a social worker/counselor and a school liaison officer – Title I at Saint Bridget School in Jersey City in addition to working as a vice principal and teacher at Saint Aloysius High School in Jersey City.

 

Sister Joyce Vincent, SC

70 - VINCENT, SC - SR JOYCESister Joyce Vincent entered religious life on September 6, 1955, and received a B.S. in education from the College of Saint Elizabeth in Convent Station. She was a teacher at Saint Andrew in Jamaica Plain, MA; Corpus Christi in Hasbrouck Heights; Saint Anne in Jersey City; Our Lady of Victories in Jersey City; Assumption in Morristown; Saint Parick in Weston, VA; Saint Thomas in Waterbury, CT; and Blessed Sacrament in Jamaica Plain, MA (where she also served as principal). Additionally, she was an administrator/staff member at Saint Frances Residence in Paterson.

 

Sister Patricia Wall, CSJP

70 - WALL, CSJP - Sister PatSister Patricia Wall entered religious life on June 29, 1955. She earned a B.S. in mathematics/education from Caldwell College in Caldwell, an M.S. in mathematics from Fordham University in New York, NY; and an M.A. in moral theology from Darlington University in Mahwah. As a teacher, she has worked at the following: St. Anne’s School in Fair Lawn; Our Lady of Peace in Fords; Immaculate Heart Academy in Washington Township; St. Mary’s High School in Jersey City; Notre Dame High School in New York, NY; Paramus Catholic High School in Paramus; Saint Dominic Academy in Jersey City; Kenmare High School in Jersey City; Holy Family Academy in Bayonne; and Academy of the Sacred Heart in Hoboken. Additionally, she served as an adjunct professor of mathematics at Felician College in Lodi, a pastoral associate at Saint Elizabeth in Wyckoff and an administrator at Villa Marie Claire in Saddle River.

She received a B.A. in education from the College of Saint Elizabeth in Convent Station and an M.A. in education from Fairfield University in Fairfield, CT. She worked as a pastoral associate at Holy Rosary Parish in Edgewater; a pastoral associate at Our Lady of Grace Parish in Fairview; a director of religious education at Queen of Peace in Hewitt; a director of religious education at Notre Dame in Cedar Knolls; a teacher at Saint Paul of the Cross in Jersey City; a director of religious education at St. Mary in Branford, CT; a staff member at the Hospital of Saint Raphael in New Haven, CT; and a pastoral associate at Sacred Heart in Tucson, AZ.

 

Sister Ursula Butler, OSB

65 - BUTLER, OSB, Sister UrsulaSister Ursula Butler entered religious life on September 8, 1960. She graduated from Seton Hall University in South Orange before earning an M.A. from Catholic University in Washington, D.C. She taught first grade at St. Joseph’s School in Maplewood; St. Joseph’s School in East Rutherford; St. Michael’s School in Cranford; St. Anthony’s School in Washington, D.C.; and St. Genevieve’s School in Elizabeth. She was also a principal at St. Genevieve’s, a principal at Blessed Sacrament School in Elizabeth, an assistant superintendent for the Diocese of Paterson’s School Office and a director of education at the Archdiocese of Washington’s School Office – Division of Curriculum and Instructional Services. Additionally, she served as a development professional at Bender Memorial Academy in Elizabeth, a librarian and development professional at St. Francis Cathedral School in Metuchen, a librarian and development professional at Our Lady of Guadalupe Academy in Elizabeth and a subprioress and archivist at the Benedictine Sisters of Elizabeth.

 

Sister Mary Elizabeth Fallon, OP

65 - FALLON, OP - Sister Mary ElizabethSister Mary Elizabeth Fallon entered religious life on September 8, 1960. She earned a B.A. from Caldwell University in Caldwell; an M.A. in general professional education with a history concentration from Seton Hall University in South Orange; and an M.A.T. in religion from Saint Michael’s College in Winooski, VT. She worked as a teacher at Saint Mary School in Rutherford, Our Lady of the Lake in Verona, Our Lady of Lourdes in Mountainside, and Union Catholic High School in Scotch Plains. She also served as a teacher and department chair at Lacordaire Academy in Upper Montclair and a teacher, campus minister and religion department chair at Saint Dominic Academy in Jersey City. Additionally, she was a social service assistant at Saint Joseph Social Service Center in Elizabeth.

 

Sister Jeanne Goyette, OP

65 - GOYETTE, OP - Sister JeanneSister Jeanne Goyette entered religious life on September 8, 1960. She received a B.S. from Caldwell University in Caldwell; an M.S. in biological science from Michigan State University in East Lansing, MI; and an M.A. in religious studies and spirituality from Fordham University in the Bronx, NY. She worked as a teacher at Saint Aloysius School in Caldwell; Our Lady of the Lake in Verona; Christ the King School in Hillside; Paul VI High School in Clifton; Saint Margaret School in Bayou La Batre, AL; Lacordaire Academy in Upper Montclair; and Mount Saint Dominic Academy in Caldwell. Sister Marge Jaros, OP

She earned a B.A. from Caldwell University in Caldwell and an M.A. in elementary childhood education from Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven, CT. She worked as a teacher at Saint John School in Clark, Nativity School in Midland Park and Saint Boniface School in Jersey City. She also served as a staff member at the House of Prayer in Convent Station, a pastoral minister and administrator at Saint Ann School in Newark, a pastoral associate at Saint Philomena Parish in Livingston, a Leadership Team councilor and vocation director at the Sisters of Saint Dominic in Caldwell, a director of social services at Marian Manor in Caldwell and a wellness coordinator at Saint Catherine Healthcare Center in Caldwell.

 

Sister Elaine Keenan, OP

She has been a teacher at Saint Aloysius School in Caldwell; a teacher at Saint Joseph School in Union City; a teacher at Mount Saint Dominic Grade School in Caldwell; a teacher at Saint Thomas More School in Fairfield; an assistant vocation director at the Sisters of Saint Dominic in Caldwell; a teacher and guidance counselor at Lacordaire High School in Upper Montclair; an evangelization team member and pastoral associate at Sacred Heart Parish in Jersey City; a spiritual direction program faculty member at the Archdiocese of New York in Bardonia, NY; a vice president and dean of student life at Caldwell University in Caldwell; a library/service program director at the Academy of Saint Elizabeth in Convent Station; and a director of archives, novice director and community formation representative at the Sisters of Saint Dominic in Caldwell.

 

Sister Marcia Lammerding, OSB

65 - LAMMERDING, OSB - SR MARCIASister Marcia Lammerding entered religious life on September 8, 1960, and graduated from Seton Hall University in South Orange. As a teacher, she worked at Blessed Sacrament School in Elizabeth, Our Lady of the Lake School in Lake Mohawk, Bender Memorial Academy in Elizabeth, Saint Patrick’s High School in Elizabeth, Saint Mary of the Assumption High School in Elizabeth and Roselle Catholic High School in Roselle. She also served as a principal and teacher at Saint Joseph’s School in Maplewood, principal and teacher at Benedictine Academy, vice principal and teacher at Paterson Catholic Regional High School in Paterson and a subprioress at the Benedictine Sisters of Elizabeth.

 

Sister Janet McLaughlin, SC

65 - MCLAUGHLIN, SC - SR JANETSister Janet McLaughlin entered religious life on September 6, 1960, and earned a B.A. in education from Montclair State College in Montclair. She taught at Bayley-Ellard in Madison, Star of the Sea Academy in Long Branch, Saint Michael High School in Union City and Saint John in Paterson. She also served as a director of the Equal Opportunity Foundation Program at the College of Saint Elizabeth in Convent Station, director of the Educational Program at the Morris Co. Chaplaincy Council in Morristown, house manager at the Halfway House in Morristown, general resident manager at Paterson Towers (Sen. City House) in Paterson and coordinator of the Math Lab at Montclair State College.

 

Sister Catherine Morrisett, SC

65 - MORRISETT, SC - SR CATHERINESister Catherine Morrisett entered religious life on September 6, 1960. She studied at the College of Saint Elizabeth in Convent Station and earned a B.A. in education from Montclair State College in Montclair, an M.A. in education from Paterson State in Paterson, an MDiv from Immaculate Conception Seminary in Darlington, an M.A. from the Institute of Religion and Health and a Ph.D. from the Theological Seminary of New York. She worked as a teacher at Saint Thomas in Bloomfield, a teacher at Our Lady of the Visitation in Paramus, a teacher at Saint Joseph in Paterson, a teacher and pastoral minister at Saint Paul in Ramsey, a parent liaison at Academy of the Sacred Heart in Hoboken, a pastoral psychotherapist at the Institute for Religion and Health in Newark and New York, a psychotherapist at the Cranford Center for Human Development in Cranford and a psychotherapist at the Grace Counseling Center in Madison.

 

Sister Mary Patricia Reid, OP

65 - REID, OP - Sister Mary PatSister Mary Patricia Reid entered religious life on September 8, 1960. She received a B.A. from Caldwell University in Caldwell and an M.A. in art/ceramics from Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, MI. As a teacher, she served Saint Mary School in Wharton, Saint Theresa School in Kenilworth, Lacordaire Academy in Upper Montclair, Saint Matthew School in Ridgefield, Saint Mary School in Rutherford and Marylawn of the Oranges in South Orange. She was also a teacher and assistant at Aquinas Academy in Livingston, a substitute teacher for South Orange Public Schools in South Orange and a staff artist at Gensis Farm in Blairstown.

 

Sister Ann Marie Rimmer, OP

65 - RIMMER, OP - Sister Ann MarieSister Ann Marie Rimmer entered religious life on September 8, 1960. She earned a B.A. from Caldwell University in Caldwell and an M.A. in systematic theology from Immaculate Conception Seminary in South Orange. She worked as a teacher at Saints Peter and Paul School in Hoboken; a teacher at Holy Spirit School in Union; a teacher at Saint Mary School in Rutherford; a teacher at Mount Saint Dominic Academy in Caldwell; a teacher at Mount Saint Dominic Grade School in Caldwell; a teacher and pastoral minister at Saint Philomena Parish in Livingston; a principal and financial director at Project Link in Newark; a major superior and vicaress at the Sisters of Saint Dominic; a personnel officer at the Jesuit Refugee Service in Rome, Italy; a pastoral associate at Ascension Parish in New Milford; a spiritual direction and program coordinator at Stella Maris Retreat Center in Elberon; and an administrative assistant at Siena Village in Wayne.

 

Sister Frances Salemi, SC

65 - SALEMI, SC - SR FRANCESSister Frances Salemi entered religious life on September 6, 1960. She earned her bachelor’s degree in education at the College of Saint Elizabeth in Convent Station and an M.A. in education at Jersey City State College in Jersey City. Sister Frances also studied at the Theological Seminary in New York City.  As a teacher, she worked at Saint Patrick School in Jersey City and Saint Mary School in Dumont. She served at Sacred Heart in Jersey City for more than 45 years as a teacher, vice principal, and principal. In 2021, Sister Frances was awarded the Russ Berrie Making a Difference Award for unsung heroes.

 

Sister Catherine Waters, OP

65 - WATERS, OP - Sister CatherineSister Catherine Waters entered religious life on September 8, 1960. She received a B.A. from Caldwell University in Caldwell and an M.S. and Ph.D. in counseling education from Fordham University in New York City. Sister Catherine was a teacher at Nativity School in Midland Park and Saint John School in Jersey City, a teacher and counselor at Union Catholic High School in Scotch Plains, and director of counseling services at Caldwell University in Caldwell and Seton Hall University in South Orange. She was a consulting psychologist at Saint Vincent Academy, Newark, and a wellness coordinator at Saint Catherine Healthcare Center in Caldwell.

Brother Edward (Ed) Bergeron, CFC

60 - BEREGERON, CFC - BR. EDWARDBrother Edward Bergeron entered religious life on July 3, 1965. He earned his bachelor’s degree from IONA College in New Rochelle, NY, and an M.A. from Maryknoll School of Theology in Ossining, NY. Brother Ed worked as a teacher at Essex Catholic High School in Newark, Colegio Mundo Mejor in Chimbote, Peru, and Colegio San Carlos in Monsefú, Peru. While in Peru, he also worked as a catechist and retreat leader. Among his many other positions, Brother Ed was the Program Director of Maryknoll Cross-Cultural Training Services in Ossining, Executive Director of the Center for Lay Leadership Formation for the Archdiocese of Newark, and President of Guadalupe Regional Middle School in Brownsville, TX.

 

Sister Mary Joseph Bircsak, OP

60 - BIRCSAK, CFC - Sister Mary JosephSister Mary Joseph Bircsak entered religious life on September 8, 1965. She earned her B.A. degree from Caldwell University in Caldwell and an M.S. in interdepartmental biological sciences from Michigan State University in East Lansing, MI. Sister Mary Joseph was a teacher at Mount Saint Dominic Academy in Caldwell and Union Catholic Girls High School in Scotch Plains. She was a science professor, director of admissions, and dean of external affairs at Caldwell University; a consultant at Ingersoll Group Inc. in Denver, CO; and resident manager at Siena Village in Wayne.

 

Sister Margaret Conlon, SC

60 - CONLON, SC - SR MARGARETSister Margaret Conlon entered religious life on September 6, 1965. She received a bachelor’s degree in education from the College of Saint Elizabeth in Convent Station and an M.S. at the University of Scranton, in Scranton, PA. Sister Conlon worked as an administrative assistant at the College of Saint Elizabeth and as director of guidance at the Academy of Saint Aloysius in Jersey City. She was also a director/counselor at Emmaus House in Elberton.

 

Sister Elizabeth Kremp, SC

60 - KREMP, SC - SR ELIZABETHSister Elizabeth Kremp entered religious life on September 6, 1965. She earned a B.S. degree in education from the College of Saint Elizabeth in Convent Station. Sister Elizabeth went on to earn an M.A. in education from Fairfield University in Fairfield, CT. She then worked as a teacher at the following schools: All Saints School in Jersey City, Saint Anastasia School in Teaneck, and Saint Rose of Lima in Newark.

 

Sister Deborah Lynch, OP

60 - LYNCH, OP - Sister DeborahSister Deborah Lynch entered religious life on September 8, 1965. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Caldwell University in Caldwell, an M.S. in religious education from La Salle University in Philadelphia, PA, and an M.S. in counseling from Iona College in New Rochelle. Sister Deborah worked as a teacher at Saint Joseph School in Union City, Our Lady of the Lake School in Verona, and Blessed Sacrament School in Bridgeport, CT. At Saint Dominic Academy in Jersey City, she was a teacher, director of students, and counselor. She was also a pastoral associate at Corpus Christi Parish in Chatham.

 

Sister Rosemary Moynihan, SC

60 - MOYNIHAN, SC - SR ROSEMARYSister Rosemary Moynihan entered religious life on September 6, 1965. She received an A.B. in education from the College of Saint Elizabeth in Convent Station, an M.S. in education from Columbia University in New York, and a Ph.D. from New York University. Sister Rosemary served as a supervisor at Saint Joseph Hospital and Medical Center in Paterson, and as coordinator of mental health programs for the hospital’s Comprehensive Care Center for AIDS. Among her many other responsibilities, she was also the Vice President of Mission at Trinitas Regional Medical Center.

 

Sister Mary Dolores Spano, SC

60 - SPANO, SC - SR MARY DOLORESSister Mary Dolores Spano entered religious life on September 6, 1965. She earned a B.S. in education from the College of Saint Elizabeth in Convent Station, an M.Div. from Immaculate Conception Seminary in South Orange, and became a licensed practical nurse at Morris County School of Technology in Denville. Sister Mary Dolores served as a teacher at Our Lady of Mount Carmel School in Tenafly, Saint Paul School in Ramsey, and Saint Andrew School in Westwood. She served as a pastoral associate at Saint Thomas More Parish in Convent Station, Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Ridgewood, and Our Lady Mother of the Church Parish in Woodcliff Lakes. Sister Mary Dolores was a parish minister at Saint Andrew Parish in Westwood and a chaplain at Saint Joseph Medical Center in Yonkers, New York, and Saint Peter’s University Hospital in New Brunswick.

 

Sister Maryanne Tracey, SC

60 - TRACEY, SC - SR MARYANNESister Maryanne Tracey entered religious life on September 6, 1965. She earned a B.S. in education at the College of Saint Elizabeth in Convent Station and an M.A. in education from Saint Joseph College in West Hartford, CT. Sister Maryanne was a teacher’s aide at Holy Cross School in Harrison. She served as principal of St. Peter School in Jersey City, Saint Aloysius Elementary School in Jersey City, and Corpus Christi School in Hasbrouck Heights, where she was also a teacher. Sister Maryanne was the director of vocational promotion and admissions for the Sisters of Charity in Convent Station and the director of transitional housing at the Elizabeth Coalition for the Homeless in Elizabeth.

 

Sister Patricia Wormann, OP

60 - WORMANN - Sister PatriciaSister Patricia Wormann entered religious life in 1965, spending twenty years with the Daughters of Divine Charity. She entered the Sisters of Saint Dominic of Caldwell in 1985. Sister Patricia earned a B.A. at Fordham University in New York City, an M.Div. in pastoral ministry at Immaculate Conception Seminary in Darlington, and an M.S.W. from Rutgers University. She served as a teacher at Saint Stephen of Hungary School in New York City, Holy Assumption School in Roebling, Saint Ladislaus School in New Brunswick, Saint Thomas the Apostle School in Old Bridge, and Saint Emery School in Fairfield, CT. Sister Patricia has also worked as a pastoral associate, guidance counselor, family counselor, and retreat director for various schools and parishes. She was a campus ministry chaplain at Rutgers University and served a chaplain residency at RWJ University Hospital in New Brunswick. She served in social services ministry for Marian Manor in Caldwell and is the Delegate for Religious for the Archdiocese of Newark.

Sister Denise Marie of the Holy Spirit (Atkins), OP

50 - ATKINS, OP - Sister Denise MarieSister Denise Marie entered religious life on May 8, 1975. She was formerly prioress of the Dominican Monastery of Our Lady of the Rosay in Summit. Sister Denise Marie continues to live a life of prayer, contemplation, and service at the monastery with her community.

 

 

Sister Carol Dempsey, OP

50 - DEMPSEY, OP - Sister CarolSister Carol Dempsey entered religious life on July 7, 1975. She earned an A.B. from Caldwell University in Caldwell, an M.A. in English from St. Louis University in St. Louis, MI, and a Ph.D. in biblical studies from Catholic University in Washington, DC. She taught at Mount Saint Dominic Academy in Caldwell and Lacordaire Academy in Upper Montclair. Sister Carol was an instructor at Albertus Magnus College in New Haven, CT. She is a professor of biblical studies at the University of Portland in Portland, OR, and has authored and edited numerous books.

 

Brother Peter E. Zawot, CFC

Brother Peter E. Zawot entered religious life on September 4, 1975. He studied at Iona University in New Rochelle, NY, and Santa Maria Novitiate in West Park, NY. He earned an M.A. at Fairfield University in Fairfield, CT, and an M.S.Ed. at Saint Bonaventure University in Olean, NY. Brother Peter has served as a teacher at Tampa Catholic High School in Tampa, FL, Bishop Hendricken High School in Warwick, RI, Bergen Catholic High School in Oradell, and Sacred Heart School in New York City. He was an assistant principal at Iona Preparatory School in New Rochelle, NY, and a principal at St. John Neumann High School in Naples, FL, Trinity Catholic High School in Ocala, FL, and Damien Memorial School in Honolulu, HI. Brother Peter has served as a provincial leader at the Edmund Rice Christian Brothers Province Center in Elizabeth.

Sister Mary Amata of Jesus (Hale), OP

25 - AMATA, OP - Sister Mary Amata of JesusSister Mary Amata of Jesus entered religious life on November 5, 2000. Of her vocational journey, she has written: “Before God could call me to religious life, He had to get me into the Catholic Church!  Through a personal friend, who became my RCIA sponsor, I was baptized at the Easter Vigil in 1992.  This friend has been with me all along my journey and flew in from South Carolina for my Solemn Profession.” Sister Mary Amata continues to live a life devoted to prayer, contemplation, and service at the Monastery of Our Lady of the Rosary in Summit.

 

Sister Sarah Jusay, SDV

25 - JUSAY, SDV - SR SARAHSister Sarah Jusay entered religious life on September 9, 2000. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in social studies at Caldwell University in Caldwell. Sister Sarah has served in faith formation at Blessed Sacrament Church for the Metuchen Diocese and at Saint Michael Church in Newark. She is the OCIA Coordinator for Saint Gerard Majella Church in Paterson.
