Across the Archdiocese of Newark, parishes have been honoring Mary during the month of May with processions, hymns, praying novenas, and crownings.
Throughout May, Catholics honor the Blessed Virgin Mary to symbolize her significance in the Church and their lives. The May Crowning ceremony recognizes her role as the mother of Jesus and Queen of heaven and earth. Traditionally, parishes dedicate an area to place a statue of Mary and surround her with flowers for 31 days to highlight the importance of Mother Mary in the Church.
