From the Archives: Welcome Home Parade in Elizabeth, 1919

Scenes from the June 21, 1919, “Welcome Home Parade” in Elizabeth, N.J., celebrated returning members of the armed forces from World War I. The photographs were taken by Msgr. Walter Jarvais, then 15 years old, who later served as a chaplain in the U.S. Merchant Marine during World War II and went on to become Chair of the Religion Department at Seton Hall and Spiritual Director of Immaculate Conception Seminary.
