From the Archives: Cornerstone Ceremony for Seminary in Darlington
This photograph captures the crowd gathered for the cornerstone laying ceremony of the Immaculate Conception Seminary campus in Darlington, Mahwah, NJ. Thousands attended the event, which marked the culmination of plans that began in 1926, when the Diocese of Newark purchased the Darlington estate as the new seminary site. The campus was designed to accommodate up to 300 seminarians and included Christ the King Chapel, which could seat up to 500.
