Sights & Sounds: Pilgrims gather at Mary’s shrine during Archdiocesan Pilgrimage
On Saturday, October 18, thousands of pilgrims from across the Archdiocese of Newark journeyed hundreds of miles by bus to the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, DC. They brought with them prayers and petitions, along with hearts full of hope, as they began the Jubilee year celebration.
Outside the magnificent basilica shrine, pilgrims were greeted by a smiling Cardinal Joseph W. Tobin, C.Ss.R., Archbishop of Newark, along with Auxiliary Bishops Elias R. Lorenzo, O.S.B., Michael A. Saporito, and Manuel A. Cruz, D.D. The groups of pilgrims displayed handmade banners as they posed on the steps of the shrine to capture memories of the special day. They then entered the shrine to pray, receive the sacraments, visit Our Lady in the shrine’s many Marian chapels, and worship God together.
