Several Sources’ original shelter for moms renamed after founder

A pro-life Mass was held on May 8 at St. Teresa of Avila Church in Summit to mark the start of renovations to Several Sources Shelters’ original home for pregnant women in Ramsey, New Jersey. The facility has been renamed Kathy’s House, after Kathy DiFiore, the founder of Several Sources.

Bishop Elias Lorenzo, a Benedictine monk and Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Newark, was the main celebrant. Bishop Kevin J. Sweeney of the Paterson Diocese was the homilist.

Headquartered in Ramsey, the organization helps women and families choose life for their babies — not abortion — and provides them with services and resources to continue their journey.

A humble beginning with major impact

Several Sources started in 1981 when DiFiore took a pregnant teenager into her own home. Since then, more than 34,000 mothers’ and babies’ lives have been touched through the efforts of Several Sources Shelters. The organization’s ministry has a footprint in Newark and Paterson, including working with Paterson’s Walking with Moms in Need program.

A ticketed cocktail party after the Mass raised $100,000 for the renovation of Kathy’s House. Several Sources have collected another $30,000 in donations. The organization needs $200,000 to complete the project.
