Portuguese Catholics celebrate Mass at the Cathedral (Video/ photos)
Hundreds of Portuguese Catholics celebrated their faith and culture at a Mass on Wednesday, June 5, at the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart. Bishop Manuel António Mendes dos Santos, CMF, the Roman Catholic bishop of the Diocese of São Tomé and Príncipe, was the main celebrant. Attendees dressed in colorful Portuguese dress and carried banners from the different regions of Portugal. The Mass followed Portugal Day held in Elizabeth, N.J. on May 31 when the Portuguese flag was raised over the city, and a parade and street fair with performances were held.
