From the Archives: Perpetual Adoration Society, 1963

Members of the Perpetual Adoration Society pray in St. Mary’s, Elizabeth in 1963. Volunteers each scheduled an hour per week of prayer before the tabernacle, resulting in a day and night vigil in a never-locked church. At the time, three churches participated in the perpetual adoration: St. Paul of the Cross, Jersey City; St. Joseph of the Palisades, West New York; and St. Mary of the Assumption, Elizabeth, with more than 1,600 volunteers across these three churches.
