Epiphany celebration: faith and tradition unite the Archdiocese

The Feast of the Epiphany, also known as Three Kings Day or Twelfth Night, came alive across the Archdiocese of Newark during the weekend of Jan. 4-5. This sacred celebration, rooted in the Gospel of Matthew, commemorates the Magi’s revelation of Jesus as the Son of God, marking a pivotal point in the Christmas story.

Parishes and schools embraced the spirit of the Epiphany with vibrant traditions and ceremonies, including reenactments of the Magi’s journey and gift exchanges symbolizing the gold, frankincense, and myrrh presented to the infant Jesus. Many parishes hosted Three Kings Day parades featuring live camels, while others marked the conclusion of the Christmas season with concerts.

Catholic schools enriched the celebration with creative and meaningful activities from students dressing as kings for Epiphany Masses to blessing classrooms and practicing the tradition of chalking doors.

The gallery below highlights the diverse, joyous, and faith-filled ways parishes and schools honored this cherished feast, bringing the story of the Magi to life in inspiring ways.
