Around the Archdiocese of Newark, Catholic students have been engaging in prayerful experiences this week; hosting prayer services and performing Living Stations of the Cross as they prepare to celebrate the resurrection of Christ at Easter.
During Lent, Catholics walk to the 14 Stations of the Cross and stop to pray at each one. The ancient practice allows participants to meditate and reflect upon Jesus’s journey to Cavalry, His crucifixion, and burial.
At Saint Thomas the Apostle School in Bloomfield, students host a prayer service at the church and recite the Stations of the Cross. At Saint Elizabeth School in Wyckoff, students perform the living Stations of the Cross, an annual tradition. At Saint Aloysius Elementary School in Jersey City, students perform the living Stations of the Cross. At Our Lady of Mercy Academy in Park Ridge, hundreds of students gather outside of the school to walk the Stations of the Cross on Wednesday. At Christ the Teacher Academy in Fort Lee, students perform the living Stations of the Cross. At the Academy of Our Lady in Glen Rock, 8th-grade students perform the living Stations of the Cross before the entire school. At Holy Trinity School in Westfield, students participate in a Stations of the Cross walking tour, which involved recitation of prayers and discussions connecting the stations to problems teens face in the real world today. At the Academy of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Franklin Lakes, students recite the Stations of the Cross during an in-school prayer service.
