Slow down and take time to be with God
First Sunday of Lent, March 6, 2022
“The Lord, your God, shall you worship; God alone shall you serve.” – Matthew 4:1-11
We get distracted. We get tempted. In Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus wrestles with the devil who is trying to distract him from his mission. Jesus stays focused and reminds the devil that there is no other way than to focus on God alone.
We have so many temptations and distractions before us that can “un-focus” us from our goals, our responsibilities, and our faith. So many things pop up, or we have so much to do that we don’t take time to concentrate on things that matter.
This Lent, slow down and take time to be with God. There is a good song by country singer Chuck Gerard where he says, “Slow down, slow down, be still, and know that I am God.”
Reflection
- What will you do this Lent to take time for prayer and reflection to strengthen your relationship with God? Keep a journal and write a thought or prayer each day.
- What will you do this Lent to share your gifts with others through almsgiving and service to others?
- In what way does being a part of your parish community help you understand how God is calling you to deepen your spiritual life?
Do something for yourself this Lent. Slow down and focus on God alone.
May we have a holy and blessed Lent!
