From the archive — Flag blessing

Blessing of the Bicentennial flag at St. John’s in Newark. The flag, which had previously been flown over the Capitol building, was installed over St. John’s to mark the United States Bicentennial celebrations in 1976. Edward Baker, past president of the Mount Carmel Guild Center for the Deaf (left) presents the flag for the blessing of Msgr. John P. Hourihan, with Raymond Mikos, president of the Archdiocesan Pastoral Council for the Deaf, and Joseph Hayden, lector at a liturgy for the deaf. 1975 April 3.
