Day two of the conclave

Black smoke billowed from the chimney of the Sistine Chapel earlier this morning, indicating that a second vote had been taken this morning and no pope has been elected.
The cardinals are now expected to take a break for several hours before resuming voting. Up to two votes are likely to take place this afternoon. If a pope is elected on the first vote, white smoke would be expected around 5:30 p.m. Rome time (11:30 a.m. EDT). Smoke — black or white — from the second vote would be expected around 7 p.m. Rome time (1 p.m. EDT).
