View the funeral of Pope Francis on our “In memoriam” page
The funeral of Pope Francis is scheduled to take place on Saturday, April 26 at 4:00 a.m. Eastern time (10:00 a.m. in Rome). His Reverend Eminence Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re, Dean of the College of Cardinals, will preside over the funeral liturgy.
The Archdiocese of Newark has created an “In memoriam” page where the faithful can watch coverage of papal events, including the funeral, read Cardinal Tobin’s statement about the Pope’s death, view Jersey Catholic articles about Pope Francis, and access other resources.
Cardinal Joseph W. Tobin, C.Ss.R., Archbishop of Newark, will be among the many Church leaders who will concelebrate the papal funeral. Hundreds of dignitaries and world leaders are also expected to attend, as well as hundreds of thousands of believers from all over the world who are converging on Rome to pay their respects to the Holy Father. The funeral will mark the beginning of the “Novendiales,” the nine days of mourning, prayers, and liturgies for the repose of the soul of Pope Francis.
In the Archdiocese of Newark, the bells of every parish will toll twelve times at noon on the day of the funeral, recognizing Pope Francis’s twelve years of service as pontiff.
