Obituaries for November 2024

Sister Justine Pinto, OP
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated for Sister Justine Pinto, OP (Sister Michael Marie), on Monday, Nov. 25, 2024, at Saint Aloysius Church, Caldwell, NJ.
Sister Justine entered into eternal life on Nov. 17, 2024, at Saint Catherine of Siena Convent, NJ, at the age of 85. She was a Dominican Sister of Caldwell for 69 years.
Sister Justine received a bachelor’s degree in social studies from Caldwell University before graduating from St. Michael College in Colchester, VT, with a master’s degree in theology with religious studies. She was also certified in healthcare management by St. Joseph College in Standish, ME.
Always leading by example and caring for those in need, Sister Justine liked to “be the sunshine on those cloudy days.” One of her favorite ministries was at Saint Aloysius Parish, Caldwell, where she was a pastoral associate and the youth minister. She also served there as coordinator of social concerns. Together with others, they assisted families and individuals in need, but, most importantly for Sister Justine, it was “getting to know people personally, recognize them as persons equal to others, and show real concern for them and their families.” Sister Justine also served as administrator at Saint Catherine Convent and Healthcare Center, Caldwell. Another of her favorite ministries was serving as principal and teacher at Saint Virgil School, Morris Plains. She also taught at Saint Mary School, Rutherford; Saint Catherine of Siena School, Cedar Grove; and Saint John the Apostle School, Clark.
Sister Justine is survived by her Dominican Sisters, family and friends.
Deacon Reynaldo Trinidad
A Mass of Christian Burial was held for Deacon Reynaldo Trinidad on Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2024, at St. Michael the Archangel Church in Lyndhurst, NJ.
Deacon Reynaldo passed away peacefully on Nov. 7, 2024, at the age of 82. He was born in Marikina, Philippines, and he was a beloved husband, father, brother, and grandfather.
He devoted himself to his faith, serving as a deacon at St. Mary’s Church in Nutley before serving at St. Michael the Archangel Church. His commitment to the church and his community demonstrated his compassionate nature and unwavering dedication.
Deacon Reynaldo is survived by his wife, Edna Trinidad; his children Rosalina, Reynaldo Jr., and Reginald; his granddaughter Jessica; and his brothers and sisters, Mauricio, Jaime, Romarico, Irmina, Sofia, and Feliciano. He was preceded in death by Cecilio Trinidad, Josefina Trinidad, and Conrado Trinidad.
Sister Marilyn Zaino, SC
A Mass of Christian burial was held for Sister Marilyn Zaino, SC (formerly Sister Irene Maria), on Thursday, Nov. 7, 2024, at Holy Family Chapel, Convent Station, NJ.
Sister Marilyn, a Sister of Charity of St. Elizabeth, died on Oct. 31, 2024, at Complete Care at St. Vincent, Cedar Grove, NJ, at the age of 83. She was born in Teaneck, NJ, and was the daughter of Alfred and Irene (Miller) Zaino. She entered the Sisters of Charity on August 20, 1959. This year marked her 65th anniversary in the Congregation.
Sister Marilyn graduated from the College of St. Elizabeth (St. Elizabeth University), Convent Station, NJ, with a bachelor’s degree in education and studied at Seton Hall University, South Orange, NJ, in the Pastoral Ministry department. She served in educational ministry at St. Anne’s School and St. Michael’s School, both in Jersey City, NJ. She also ministered as a nurse’s aide and Arts and Crafts assistant at St. Anne Villa, Convent Station, as well as a homemaker at Visiting Homemaker Service, Dover, NJ. She was part of a Pastoral Ministry team at St. Philomena Parish in Livingston and St. Virgil Parish in Morris Plains. She worked as a supervisor/teacher at Dover Child Care Center in Dover, NJ. She also served as an assistant sacristan at Holy Family Chapel, Convent Station, NJ.
Sister Marilyn was a prayerful woman who had great devotion to the Eucharist. She often shared how she prayed for an increase in vocations to the religious life. She desired to serve others and engaged in a variety of ministries to be a helpful presence.
She is survived by Sisters of Charity, her brother Fred and sister-in-law Lana, as well as nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
