Archbishop Boland with debutantes at the third Catholic Presentation Ball at Robert Treat Hotel, Newark, Jan. 2, 1961. The Presentation Ball was organized by the Suburban Circle of the International Federation of Catholic Alumnae, an organization promoting Catholic women’s educational activities. The ball was an annual affair intended to raise money for college scholarships for girls, allow Catholic girls to make their debut under Catholic auspices, encourage Catholic parents to send their daughters to Catholic schools, and enable young Catholic girls and boys to become acquainted.
