November is National Black Catholic History Month. The first Black confirmation class in Hudson County assembled outside Christ the King parish in Jersey City. There were 226 candidates, including 104 adults and 122 children, who were confirmed by Archbishop Walsh on June 29, 1932. (Archdiocese of Newark Archives/ Photograph collection)
