Archdiocese of Newark obituaries: February 2024 

We remember and pray for our dearly departed clergy and men and women religious whose Masses of Christian Burial were held in February. 

Sister Kathleen P. Coll, S.S.J.

A Mass of Christian burial was held for Sister Kathleen P. Coll, (formerly Sister Regina Carmelita), a Sister of St. Joseph, on Friday, Feb. 23, 2024, at St. Joseph Villa, in Flourtown, Pa.

Sister Coll, 89, died on Feb. 18, 2024, in Philadelphia at Chestnut Hill Hospital after spending just three weeks at St. Joseph Villa.

The daughter of the late Dennis and Margaret (nee Rogers) Coll, she attended St. Vincent dePaul grade school and Holy Family Academy in Bayonne, N.J.

In September 1953 she entered the Sisters of Saint Joseph, Chestnut Hill, and professed her final vows in 1961.

Sister ministered in the Dioceses of Baltimore, Camden, Metuchen, Newark, and Philadelphia, and in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.

In the Archdiocese of Newark, she served at New Community in Newark as a social worker and in the ESL program as a director and teacher in Bayonne. 

One of her mission services was in Haiti for three years, and she continued her love for the Haitian people by being part of Haiti Solidarity until she died. She resided in Newark at Good Counsel Convent and Thea House at St. Patrick’s Pro-Cathedral for over 32 years.

Sister Coll is the sister of the late Mary Farina, Eugene Coll, Frances Stanley, Theresa Fasciano, Ann Marinke, Joan Callander, Margaret Elmigar, and Charles Coll. She is survived by many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, great-grand-nieces. and nephews as well as by members of her Congregation, the Sisters of St. Joseph.
