Sights & Sounds: The man who saves relics

On April 5, hundreds of people braved rain and chilly temperatures to view and venerate more than 500 sacred relics at Montclair’s Our Lady of Mount Carmel Oratory. Among the precious items on display were a fragment of the true cross and a piece of the Virgin Mary’s veil. There were relics from saints like  Mother Cabrini and Padre Pio, but also from early Church martyrs and holy men and women that few people were familiar with.

Most of the relics on display were collected and preserved by Joseph Santoro, U.S. regional delegate of the International Crusade for Holy Relics. This week’s Sights & Sounds feature offers a brief glimpse of the relics event and “The Man Who Saves Relics.”

Each week, Jersey Catholic features the rich and inspiring “Sights & Sounds” of the Archdiocese of Newark. Visit us regularly to explore our vibrant parishes, sacred artworks, historic landmarks, and the faithful men, women and youth who bring our Catholic community to life.
