From the Archives: The Mount Carmel Guild Service Kitchen during the Great Depression 

Volunteers prepare food in the Mount Carmel Guild Service Kitchen located in the basement of St. Patrick’s Pro-Cathedral. The Service Kitchen was opened during the Great Depression and provided meals to needy individuals regardless of race or religious background. At its height the Service Kitchen averaged 2,200 visitors a day, seven days a week.
