In his encyclical Ladauto Si’, Pope Francis calls on Catholics, especially young Catholics, to be catalysts of environmental change.
In Laudato Si, Pope Francis wrote: “Living our vocation to be protectors of God’s handiwork is essential to a life of virtue; it is not an optional or a secondary aspect of our Christian experience.”
Earth Day, celebrated this year on April 22, serves as a reminder of the faithful’s responsibility to protect and preserve the environment as stewards of God’s creation.
Around the Archdiocese of Newark, young climate advocates have been celebrating Earth Day with a variety of projects, including participating in climate demonstrations, attending environmental mission trips, participating in national discourse, cleaning up their communities, and crafting creative projects out of recyclables.
